Siurana in a nutshell

Siurana is a small village in the municipality of Cornudella de Montsant, perched on a limestone cliff overlooking the Siurana reservoir and the Montsant range. It was the last Muslim stronghold in Catalonia, conquered in 1153, and it keeps the Romanesque church of Santa Maria and the remains of its castle. From the Salt de la Reina Mora viewpoint you can see why legend places the Moorish queen’s leap on horseback here.

Climbing in Siurana

Its limestone walls hold hundreds of sport routes, from accessible grades to some of the hardest in the world, and draw climbers from all over Europe. The best season runs from autumn to spring; in summer it is best to climb early in the morning or look for shady sectors. Other well-known areas are very close, such as Margalef, Arbolí, La Mussara and the walls of the Montsant.
