Climbing in Siurana: a practical guide to planning your trip
Siurana is one of the big names in European sport climbing. Its limestone walls, above the reservoir and facing the Montsant range, hold hundreds of routes, from friendly grades to some of the hardest in the world. Here is what our climbing guests ask us most often.

When to go
The best season runs from autumn to spring. Winter days are usually sunny and dry, perfect for the sunny faces. Summer is hot: start early, look for shady sectors or keep the middle of the day for resting.
Long weekends and Easter are the busiest times, both at the crag and for accommodation. If you are travelling then, book early.
Getting there and parking
Siurana is a tiny village perched on top of a cliff. The road climbs up from Cornudella de Montsant, the nearest village with shops and services: about 9 km and around 15 minutes by car.
The car parks at the entrance to the village are paid, a few euros a day: bring some cash just in case. On busy days they fill up early, so go up in good time. Only park in the marked areas and never on the roadside: it is a natural area and the locals appreciate it.

Beyond Siurana
From Cornudella you can also easily reach other well-known climbing areas, to change rock and aspect depending on the weather:
- The Montsant walls, for example at La Morera de Montsant, about 15–20 minutes away.
- Arbolí, about 20 minutes away, and La Mussara, in the Prades mountains.
- Margalef, with its pocketed conglomerate, about 40 minutes away.
Rest days
- Stroll around Siurana village: the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, the castle ruins and the Salt de la Reina Mora viewpoint.
- Head down to the Siurana reservoir, right below the village.
- Hike in the Serra del Montsant Natural Park, with routes for every level.
- Visit a Priorat or Montsant winery and taste a Garnacha.
Where to stay: why Cornudella de Montsant
Siurana is a very small village with few services. That is why many climbers stay in Cornudella de Montsant, about 15 minutes from the crag, with shops, bakeries, a pharmacy, bars, restaurants and free public parking.
Our three apartments, Chenin Blanc, Merlot and El Pati, are in the centre of the village and are made for groups and climbing partners:
- 60 m² for up to 6 people: a double bedroom, a bunk-bed room and a sofa bed in the living room.
- A fully equipped kitchen for dinner and the next day’s sandwiches.
- A washing machine in every apartment (washer-dryer in Merlot and El Pati).
- You can leave your gear in the apartment: ropes, climbing shoes and packs.
- Online check-in, and pets are welcome.
The building has no lift: access is by stairs.
